John Washington was a founder of the firm and an emeritus member of the Investment Committee. Prior to FM&W’s founding in 1996, Mr. Washington spent over forty years with Alex. Brown & Sons. From 1964 to 1984 he was the administrative manager of the D.C. office.
Mr. Washington was a graduate of the Hotchkiss School and Harvard College, cum laude. He was an emeritus member of the Board of Directors of Columbia Hospital for Women and former chairman of the board. He was a former president of the Board of Trustees of the House of Mercy. He served as president of the Washington Society of Investment Analysts in 1964-'65 and was a current member of the society. From 1957 until 1961, he was editor of the Facts and Figures on Washington Securities. He was also the representative of General George Washington in the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia.
